Masuaku
Decent debut. Shouldn't judge a player on one game as some are doing but he was one of the few who were good tonight.

Has mad skills long may he continue even if it goes wrong sometimes just keep some one close by to cover, love attacking players bollox to the sideway / backwards slow passing.

In the DT Fantasy Footy (which what we play at work) only just found out that WHU's best scoring player is AARON Cresswell... 69 points... in that total is 7 assists.. not bad that

Re: Masuaku
Not a defender and needs to work on his crossing but has some great skills and pace.

Him and Creswell together would make a great winger, the question is can either of them do the back part of wing back.

FFSW- obviously Sullivan will claim him seen as he's done ok.

Eddie - he uses his right foot more than Cresswell does.

if the lad could consistently cross well and pick a pass he'd be very good

Re: Masuaku
Yes Arthur is one of those rare players that opposition managers get to make detailed plans to stop. Usually by doubling up on him which means others get more space too...

The Mystery that is Masuaku is he is not a mystery if he is a winger and is a mystery when he is a defender.

Do you think Masuaku's right foot ever gets bored? He sees the left having all the fun with the ball, but he's never once touched it.

Re: Masuaku
If he's on the wing I can easily forgive him the odd howler in a game like letting the ball run under his foot if he makes it up for it with a bit of magic or two to create a goalscoring chance which he often does. You can allow that if he's not playing at full back as a mistake higher up the pitch is less likely to be punished with a goal.

He does need to learn when to release the ball sometimes as he can run into blind alleys or not see a pass that would set someone up in a better position, but it's exciting watching him take on and beat multiple players with the ball. Only downside is often the rest of the team are not up with him to carry on the attack.

Re: Masuaku
He started his career as a left winger I believe. He is terrific going forward with excellent close control and ball juggling skill. Makes teams double up on him now and even then he found a way to escape them.
He is really weak defensively IMO and loses the ball far too close to our goal many times in the game. Needs to get the balance right. It's great to have someone comfortable with the ball at their feet but you need to know when it's safer to get rid.
If he could work on his crossing and shooting he could be exceptional.
We love a flair player and his skill does brighten up games. Hope he can take this to the next level.

Re: Masuaku
Probably too busy thinking about what he's going to do next, when he's got the ball under control, to actually get the ball under control in the first place.

He probably got away with playing LB in the Greek turd league... like he probably would in Div 1 v Southend United...

Re: Masuaku
But why did Olympiakos think of him as a defender?

Pretty sure he didn't just decide one day that he'd try a few tricks on our training ground and discovered he was good at them.

Also sure that he didn't used to be a brilliant defender as a seventeen year old who has matured by losing concentration.

Re: Masuaku
The whole "Ball rolling under his foot and going out for a throw" happens at least once a game. Cannot believe that would happen more than once a season at best for a professional footballer of any level. It's so fucking basic.

That said the bit of skill last night or watching him run repeatedly through Chelsea's team or wriggling out with three Stoke players around him and seemingly no space to manoeuvre makes this bloke a complete fucking enigma. Both frustrating and a joy to watch in equal measure.

He came from Olympiakos as a left-back. He played 88 games for them as left-back. 12 of those games in the Champions League as a left-back. That's why he was thought of as a defender.

The thing is players change, their environment changes and their coaches and managers change. At Olympiakos he may have been told by his coach just to stay back and don't stray forward. At Olympiakos he may well have played with two very good CB's who could cover for any defensive lapses.

He may well have had all this in his locker but was just never able to bring it out until he came to us.

Many players change. Remember, Bale played left-back for Soton and then was bought and played by Spurs as a left-back until he was given freedom and pushed forward. He now basically plays as a wide forward for Real Madrid.
